"The work entitled “ Story Kid” deals with the forgotten area of Mayfield. It stems from an obsession with the idea of exclusion from an area and the constant battle to find a sense of place. Mayfield, historically Ballinamought (from Irish Baile na mBocht, meaning “town of the poor”) is a working class area in the North-side of Cork City. For me the work runs off a connection to the surrounding area, it functions as a conversation piece to acknowledge different issues that the area inhabits. A strong push and pull between trepidation and social engagement is what I like to highlight in my work. I deal with this through the mediums of video and photography." - Nollaig Lynch
